WeWork Uses Location to Understand Location

WeWork has been leading the charge for shared workspaces around the globe, opening 203 office locations across 50 cities in just seven years, and in an era of booming technology and entrepreneurship they don’t plan to slow down anytime soon.

On a mission to build more than just beautiful, shared office spaces, finding and creating the right community is key to their success. But finding the right environment for potential new locations at scale was a challenge.

To tackle this problem, WeWork partnered with Factual to leverage location data to assess the vibe and walkability of potential locations. WeWork’s goal was to profile expansion areas for a better understanding of the neighborhood — Are there coffee shops nearby? How many restaurants surround the area? Is there a nightlife scene?

By combining Factual’s Global PlacesTM data with their internal mapping technology, WeWork was able to understand and compare potential locations virtually. Assessing more neighborhoods than ever before drove 95% growth in the number of locations from June 2016 to June 2017.
