DonorsChoose.org Launches Education Hackathon

We wanted to let you know about an exciting and inspiring contest for developers and data nerds!

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that allows anyone to help out teachers and schools in need. Since it started ten years ago, DonorsChoose.org has raised over $80,000,000 and helped hundreds of thousands of teachers nationwide.

DonorsChoose.org recently launched “Hacking Education: A Contest for Developers and Data Crunchers.” The contest invites participants to “build an app or analysis that will have the greatest potential to engage the public and impact education.” Submissions will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges, which includes Fred Wilson, Joel Klein, and Arianna Huffington. By opening up their data and issuing such a bold challenge, DonorsChoose.org hopes to encourage participants to create game-changing apps and analyses that will transform the area of education as we know it.

Oh, and the winner will receive their trophy from none other than Stephen Colbert during a taping of The Colbert Report. Now that’s pretty cool.

Participants are encouraged to use DonorsChoose.org’s data, or data from a 3rd party source. Most of DonorsChoose.org’s data is also on Factual, which you can find on our Education page.

So if you’re up to the challenge, make sure to enter! The future of education might depend on it.
