The wait is over, thanks to all who participated and to Factual for co-sponsoring this contest. Without further ado, the winners:
- First place (iPad 2 + smart cover!) goes to Jason Wei with Nom Nom, an Android app. Source code available here. Nom Nom is a social version of Yelp – it allows users to tag restaurants with various keywords, dishes, and even ingredients! Of course you can search by any of those. Congratulations to Jason, the judges really liked the concept and user experience of the app.
- Second place (Parrot Quadcopter Air Drone) goes to Vimal with Srch! As Vimal says, the app’s goal is to “make searching local businesses easy, interactive and fun, while contributing to the Factual database.” Source here, also check out a summary of the experience of building the app.
- Third place (Amazon Kindle) goes to Niched by Chris Montanaro. This is a very original app: it allows users to find “ sweet spots ” to start a local business: pick your business (e.g. pizza) and your city, find an area that ’s underserved by business of the desired kind. The judges thought it was a clever use of IndexTank and Factual to create a potentially useful research tool.
We have other contests lined up for the coming months so stay tuned. If you didn’t win, you can re-submit it to a future contest, and make improvements along the way. Follow Factual on IndexTank on Twitter to find out when the next one is announced!
